The Washington National Opera is staging The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, a work created by Mason Bates, the first composer-in-residence at the Kennedy Center, and librettist Mark Campbell. This Grammy®-winning opera offers a musical perspective on Steve Jobs’s life and his search for inner peace. In recent years, it has become one of the most frequently performed American operas of the 21st century and has attracted significant attention from audiences and critics alike.
This special production features prominent figures on stage. Renowned American baritone John Moore plays the role of Steve Jobs—a role he has successfully performed in several prestigious opera houses across the United States. Also returning is Wei Wu, a former Cafritz Young Artist with the WNO, who originally created the role of Kobun Chino Otogawa and will appear again in the same role.
The performances will be conducted by Lydia Yanovskaya, the pioneering music director of Chicago Opera Theater. This production, one of the Kennedy Center’s most outstanding artistic events, offers a unique opportunity for opera and contemporary music enthusiasts to witness the dramatic fusion of music, technology, and the life of one of the most influential figures of the 21st century.
